Accessibility begins with experience – an educational event for Credit Agricole Bank Poland
Accessibility begins with experience.... We often talk about removing barriers, but to truly understand them, you have to encounter them. That is why our disability experience stations, “Change your perspective with Agatas” – created by Agata Robińska and Agata Spała-Zakrzewska – open eyes, allow to look from a different perspective, and are an important step towards greater empathy and understanding.
This time, we “changed our perspective” in Wrocław, at the headquarters of Credit Agricole Bank Poland, during their regular event on accessibility – the 4th edition of "Simple Language Days".
It was a unique opportunity to “walk in the shoes” of a blind person, try riding in a wheelchair, put on an old age suit and feel like a much older person, face a task with blindfolds or earplugs, etc.
The meeting with our mentors with disabilities – Krystyna Włodarek, a blind person, and Piotr Kruszak, a deaf person, who also photographed the event (see photo below) – was also extremely sensitizing and barrier-breaking.
The reactions of those participating in the event are always similar: emotions, empathy, reflection, understanding, conversation, and motivation to take action for accessibility.
Thanks to such experiences, it is easier to understand why even small changes – contrasting markings, ramps, adequate lighting, accessible communication, or simple language – make a huge difference.
“Let's change our approach to accessibility. It's not a cost or a legal obligation (EAA), but an opportunity for a world where everyone feels included and can realize their potential,” says Agata Robińska, president of our foundation.
Together, we can make accessibility the norm, not the exception.
